  1. Fossilized worms, similar to earthworms, have been found in rocks laid down 600 million years ago.

  21. Baby worms hatch from cocoons smaller than a grain of rice. Usually only one worm emerges from it.
  22. In favorable conditions, worms breed every seven to ten days and can double their population in 90 days.
  23. The eggs can stay dormant in soil or compost for up to 15 years, waiting for conditions like moisture and food to be good enough to support their life.
  24. The earthworm falls prey to most animals and birds, but the mole is its main predator , A mole can eat up to 50 earthworms in one day.
  25. If an earthworm loses one end of its body it may grow a replacement, however, if it is cut in half, it dies.
