  1. Did you know the word Bible comes from the Greek word Biblia, meaning books? No wonder it’s called the Bible: it’s a collection of 66 books!
  2. The amazing fact is that Bible was written over a period of some 1,500 years, from around 1450 B.C. (the time of Moses) to about 100 A.D. (following the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ) by over 40 different authors from all walks of life: shepherds, farmers, tent-makers, physicians, fishermen, priests, philosophers, and kings.
  3. The Old Testament was written in Hebrew before the birth of Jesus. The New Testament was written in Greek covering the life of Christ and beyond.

  34. The first translation of the English Bible was initiated by John Wycliffe and completed by John Purvey in 1388.
  35. The Bible was printed in 1454 A.D. by Johannes Gutenberg who invented the “type mold” for the printing press. It was in fact the first book ever printed.

What happened is that the Bible Society bought the house where he was born after his death and today that building is one of the biggest sales centers of the Bible.
  39. The first translation of the Bible made in America was printed in 1808. It was the work of Charles Thomson.
  40. In 2011, British calligrapher Donald Jackson and a team of calligraphers completed what is believed to the first handwritten Bible with illustrations since the invention of the printing press. It took 12 years to complete and cost $8 million.
